Royal Driving School Melbourne ("Royal", "we", "us") takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are bound by the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What we collect
When you submit the callback form on this website, we collect: your first name, your phone number, your suburb, optional notes you provide, and limited technical information (the IP address and browser user-agent of the device you submitted from). We use this information to call you back about driving lessons.
When you book lessons by phone or email, we collect the information you provide for scheduling, payment, and instruction — typically your name, phone number, pickup address, and (for under-18 learners) a parent or guardian contact.
We do not collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act) unless it is necessary for a specific service you request, and we will tell you at the time if that ever applies.
2. How we use it
We use your information to:
- Return your callback and arrange driving lessons.
- Schedule, deliver, and follow up on the lessons you book.
- Communicate about appointments, payments, and the Pass First Go Guaranteed where applicable.
- Protect the website from automated abuse (the callback form is protected by Vercel BotID — see Section 4).
- Meet our legal obligations (record-keeping for tax, insurance, and VicRoads accreditation requirements).
We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising on third-party platforms. We do not share it with overseas data brokers.
3. Who handles it
Your callback form submission is stored in our database hosted by Supabase (servers in Sydney, Australia). The website itself is hosted by Vercel, which may process traffic through edge servers worldwide before delivering content to you; Vercel does not retain personal data from the callback form beyond what is required to route the request.
We use Resend to deliver notification emails to our staff when a callback is requested. Resend processes the email content (your name, phone, suburb) solely to deliver the email to our inbox.
We use Vercel BotID on the callback form to block automated abuse. BotID inspects browser signals (no audio or webcam access) to produce a low/high bot-likelihood score. BotID does not store personal information beyond the request itself.
We do not use Google Analytics on this site. If you have arrived via a Google search and have a Google account, Google may have logged your click on their side under their own privacy policy.
4. Cookies and tracking
This site uses a minimal session cookie required for the callback form to function. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
5. How long we keep it
We retain callback-form submissions for up to 24 months in case you contact us again. Lesson booking records are retained for 7 years to meet Australian tax and insurance record-keeping obligations. You can request earlier deletion (see Section 7).
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information: HTTPS across the whole site, encrypted database storage, access-controlled administrative interfaces, and BotID protection on the form endpoint. No system is perfectly secure, and we encourage you to use the phone number 0417 345 880 for any communication you would prefer not to put in writing.
7. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act and the APPs, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct any information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need to hold.
- Withdraw consent for any future contact (we will still keep records we are legally required to retain).

8. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Privacy Act or this policy, please contact us first using the details above and we will do our best to resolve the issue. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, when our practices change or when the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be flagged on the website for at least 30 days.
