Terms of Service.

1. Who we are

Royal Driving School Melbourne is a Victorian-accredited driving school operating since 1989. Our instructors hold VicRoads driving instructor accreditation and are members of the Australian Driver Trainers Association (ADTA). Our service area covers 50+ suburbs across Melbourne's north and west.

2. Services we provide

We provide:

• Driving lessons (automatic or manual) in our dual-control vehicles.
• Lesson packages — single lessons, 5-packs, and the Pass Plan.
• The Pass Plan with the Pass First Go Guaranteed (see Section 7).
• VicRoads test-day vehicle hire with optional warm-up.
• Overseas licence conversion lessons and test preparation.
• Refresher lessons for already-licensed drivers.

All lessons are conducted under VicRoads regulations and the Victorian Road Safety Road Rules 2017.

3. Bookings and pickup

Lessons can be booked by phone, email, or through the callback form on this website. A confirmed booking includes a date, time, instructor, vehicle (auto or manual), and pickup location. Pickup is door-to-door within our service area at no extra charge.

For learners under 18, a parent or guardian must consent to the booking. We may ask to speak with the parent or guardian before confirming the first lesson.

4. Payment

Single lessons are payable on the day, by card or bank transfer. Packages (5-pack, Pass Plan) are payable up front; the Pass Plan can be paid in two halves by phone. We do not currently support Afterpay or Zip on this website; phone the office to arrange split payment.

All prices are in Australian Dollars and inclusive of GST where applicable.

5. Cancellation and rescheduling

• More than 24 hours' notice: reschedule at no cost.
• Less than 24 hours' notice or no-show: the lesson is forfeited (1 lesson deducted from a package, or the single-lesson fee retained).
• Weather, illness, or instructor unavailability: if we cancel for any reason on our side, the lesson is rescheduled at no cost.

We reserve the right to waive the cancellation policy at our discretion (medical emergencies, genuine hardship).

6. Refunds

Single lessons paid for in advance are refundable if more than 24 hours' notice is given. Used package lessons are non-refundable; unused remaining lessons in a 5-pack or Pass Plan are refundable on a pro-rata basis less a $30 administration fee. Refunds are paid by bank transfer within 7 business days of the request.

Nothing in these terms excludes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

7. Pass First Go Guaranteed

The Pass First Go Guaranteed applies only to the Pass Plan and only when all of the following are true at the time of the VicRoads practical drive test:

• You completed all 10 Pass Plan lessons and the Mock Test within the 6 months before the test.
• Your instructor signed off your readiness in writing after the Mock Test (sign-off is a substantive assessment, not a formality).
• You used the Royal vehicle for the VicRoads test (i.e. you booked the included test-day package).
• You followed your instructor's reasonable directions on the test day (e.g. arriving on time, no alcohol or drugs, no unauthorised changes to the route).

If all four conditions are met and you do not pass on the first VicRoads test attempt, Royal will:

• Refund the VicRoads practical test fee (currently $73.30, indexed annually).
• Provide two free re-prep lessons before the next attempt.
• Drive you to the re-test at no extra charge.

The Guarantee does not cover failures resulting from breath alcohol, medication, vehicle failure caused by misuse, or falsification of logbook hours.

8. Conduct during lessons

Lessons are conducted in dual-control vehicles. The instructor retains the right to intervene at any time for safety reasons, including taking control of the vehicle. The instructor may end a lesson early without refund if the learner is unfit to drive (intoxication, severe fatigue, refusal to follow safety directions) or if the learner's behaviour is abusive or unsafe.

9. Vehicles and insurance

All Royal vehicles are comprehensively insured for instructed driving. Learners are not personally liable for damage to the vehicle caused during a lesson, except where the damage results from intentional misuse, intoxication, or refusal to follow instructor directions. Any traffic infringement issued against the vehicle during a lesson remains the responsibility of the instructor, except where caused by the learner's deliberate act.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Royal's total liability arising out of or in connection with any lesson or package is limited to the amount paid for that lesson or package. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

11. Privacy

Information you provide is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by direct discussion will be heard in a Victorian court.

13. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The most recent version applies to any booking made after the "Last updated" date. Existing confirmed bookings are honoured under the terms in force when the booking was confirmed.
